Adirondack specializes in helping teenagers (ages 13 to 17) who are experiencing or exhibiting any of the following: entitlement, manipulation, family conflict, isolation, low self-esteem, substance use, defiant behavior, attention deficit, learning differences, school failure, and negative peer relationships.
Our admissions philosophy is based upon the belief that all behavior is driven by emotional needs – and that even though these needs are often very reasonable (acceptance, attention, power, control) the behavioral strategies that our students have previously employed are not.
The goal of Adirondack Leadership Expeditions is to teach participants to think more insightfully, assess their abilities, improve communication skills, and engage in healthy behaviors.
The teenagers who attend our programs are generally bright, creative adolescents who have fallen into negative behavior patterns. These teens may show signs of slipping grades and poor academic performance, hostility toward authority figures, poor choices of friends and peer groups, and other behaviors that, if they continue, could sabotage their success in the future.
IMPORTANT NOTE: ALE is not intended to serve adjudicated youth, and has no state contracts to do so. The program does not accept students who have been diagnosed with major mental health disorders, have serious histories of running away, practice self-mutilation, exhibit habitual patterns of violence outside of the home, or who are currently demonstrating a willingness to hurt themselves.
